Fashion can be as Vegan as your Diet

Vegan Swimwear
Dubai’s first-ever vegan swimwear brand Martyne Swimwear unveiled today her full-vegan fashion swimwear collection which sells only recycled bikinis made out of regenerated nylon which is composed of items like discarded fishing nets, carpet flooring, industrial plastic and fabric scraps.

Marty Zenu, Founder and Creative Director of Martyne Swimwear talks about Vegan Swimwear:“Vegan swimwear is like any other vegan apparel – it is made without using any animal products. When it comes to our vegan leather pieces, I guess that answer seems to be simple, however, it is more complex as it seems. In fact, for garments to be considered vegan, one has to avoid any animal exploration and animal products through the entire life cycle of the product. From production through packing to waste.”She added, “Being vegan means being also fully environmental. As hurting the environment, or not doing everything possible through the process of production to save the environment and resources is equal to hurting not only animals, but also humans.   Our swimwear is made from fishing nets harvested from sea and each piece contains UV and ultra-chlorine resistant made from castor oil beans. Through the process of production we help to clean oceans at least by small pieces of work.” “Fishing nets contain nylon and polyester, those manmade fibers contain petroleum and is very harming to sea life. However, swimsuits are also made mostly from nylon and polyester as these fibers are very durable and elastic. Our appetite to create new products and buy new products are endless, however our resources aren’t.” she completed.

In Dubai and the UAE, it has been almost impossible to find sustainable swimsuits made without some sort of synthetic fiber (if you are unfamiliar, these fibers are petrochemical-based and do not biodegrade like natural fibers). Micro-plastics are still an issue when it comes to ethical swimwear, but here at Martyne Swimwear,  the brand worked so hard to make sure to not use virgin synthetics.

The production of our swimwear starts by taking post-consumer waste like plastic bottles and fishing nets, and creating new performance fabrics that work just as well as any other bathing suit you find.

Martyne Swimwear uses ECONYL® – the first of its kind in Dubai! This material is a revolutionary regeneration system of textile with endless possibilities invented by Italian textile manufacture by an international team of scientists and textile specialists. The ECONYL® Regeneration System starts with rescuing waste, otherwise polluting the Earth, all over the world. That waste is then sorted and cleaned to recover all of the nylon possible.

Through a radical regeneration and purification process, the nylon waste is recycled right back to its original purity. That means ECONYL® regenerated nylon is exactly the same as virgin nylon. ECONYL® regenerated nylon is then produced into textile fabrics.

Additionally, the brand is promoting body positivity in all shapes and forms. All swimwear sizes can fit for all body types.
